Hey, how’s it going? I’m Stephen and I created Understanding Audio to help you take giant leaps forward on your audio journey.
Have you ever felt confused when starting a project? Wondering how or where to begin?
Do you often find yourself trawling through online forums to find the answers to your questions?
Do you ever ask why your mixes are sounding so harsh and lacking the polish of your favourite artists?
I know that the answer to all of those questions was a resounding “yes” for me at one stage. But I don’t want you to have to go down the same path that I did. I want you to learn from my experiences so that you can fast track your progress and understand everything you need to know about producing better audio. Not only that, but I’m here to help you develop your inner game as a creative and have an unshakeable belief in yourself and your skills so that you can take them and showcase them on any stage you choose.
How do you avoid the head scratching around basic and even advanced audio concepts? How do you go from working a job you dislike and “doing audio or music on the side” to making a living out of doing something that you love?
I will show you.
Gone are the days of having to be a “tea boy” or intern to gain experience. The audio industry and the model of how people are being educated has changed dramatically over the last ten years and is continuing to transform. There are now many paths you can take to rapidly progress your journey.
Together, we get the fundamentals right every time and make sure they’re embedded in our brain. We cut through all the noise around gear and plugins. We have an inspired creative vision for what we want to achieve. We’re passionate. We’re optimistic. We have fun and we stand out from the crowd.
I created Understanding Audio for you. But here’s a little bit about me…
I’m Stephen – a lifelong musician and lover of all things audio.
From concert bands in Dublin, to teenage guitarist, university graduate (BA in Music Technology and a MA in Computer Music) and then studio intern (yay free work!) to salaried engineer and freelancer in London… I’ve had the privilege of being involved in a lot of great projects and working with some amazing people. My experience ranges from working in some of Europe’s top post-production studios; taking creative lead on sound design for numerous award-winning animation series, to working as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies.
In 2017, I was nominated for Best Sound Design & Music at the Irish Animation Awards for working on a project I love with the most unbelievably talented people. Not a single day of the project felt like work and it’s my proudest achievement to date.
Throughout all of those experiences, I have never stopped working with artists and bands in the music industry from across the globe. I count myself lucky to be able to produce music for incredible people and do what I love every day.
