Part one of this series showed you how to make a nice modern drum beat with Xpand!2.
Part two helped you create some nice chord and pad sounds to develop a nice sense of harmony in your production.
Part three was all about producing bass sounds that compliment and cut through the mix.
This video is all about creating lead synth parts that sit right on top of the foundations you’ve laid and act as the star of the show!
Remember… the idea behind this video series is to show you how you can create great sounds with either stock or free virtual instruments.
Almost every DAW comes with an inbuilt VST instrument that you can use to make incredible music.
You don’t need Pro Tools or Xpand2! to follow along because the concepts can be applied to any DAW or stock instrument you might own.
So check out Video 4 of the series!
Now, I’d love to know…
When it comes to lead synth parts, do you write the part first and build everything around it or do you lay the foundations first and add the hook on top?

professional sounding mix every time...
Paulo Andrade says
Both options are possible.
If an idea for a hook comes first, I try to build the arrangement underneath.
On the other end, if there is already some harmonies / rythm to work with, the hook appears almost by itself.
There`s no universal rule for that…
Stephen says
I completely agree. There are no universal rules when it comes to anything music-related. Except maybe “don’t try to Autotune a fart” – although that’s still possible.
Paulo Andrade says
Aaaaah…( I had to go search for the meaning of “fart”)
Ok. If one of this days you feel curious about this “No Rules Theory” of mine, you may check this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY_gin8yR7H48h3sHCTJhbA
I will try to publish a new video / music every 2 weeks or once a month using my 8-tracks-most-Ableton Live 9 Lite following this very concept: build a song from scratch without no previos idea whatsoever…
(we`ll see what I can do)
